What makes drift controls feel good on a touchscreen
Racing games live and die by their controls, and on a phone that's a hard problem. No steering wheel, no pedals, just a slab of glass. Yet some games nail it and others make you want to throw the phone across the room.
The best ones keep it simple. A wide touch zone for steering, a big obvious brake, and drift that triggers naturally when you brake into a corner rather than through some hidden combo. Nitro District does this well, which is why it kept coming up in our notes.
The worst offenders bury inputs in tiny buttons or demand pixel-perfect timing the touchscreen can't reliably read. If a game punishes you for the screen's limitations, that's a design failure, not a skill issue.
My advice when trying a new racer: spend the first race just feeling the steering. If the car goes where you expect within two corners, it's a keeper. If you're fighting the controls, no amount of nice graphics will save it.
